This is a pretty essential feature for any frontend dev suite now. If not, please think about prioritizing it. Check that option only when you need it. Please merge Firebug into Firefox Dev tools. It is really essential for web dev, and your research already shows that. Having it out of the box harms no one, and benefits developers, who require one less extension. Also bringing it into firefox, will improve its QA, performance and integrate UX.
I am glad that this topic received so many responses. It means this is important subject to many developers trying to make web a better place for all. I have entered Web development four and a half year ago at the last few months of Firefox 3.
Firebug was the first tool I used to help me in web development and it is the de facto standard in the company I work for. We really can not thank enough to the people that worked and are still working on it.
At home I deliberately did not installed Firebug so I could give Firefox development tools an honest chance to show me what hey can do. I really think you did I great job on Firefox development tools. Two suggestions that I would like to see are different for color in Development tools. Firebug gives a hexadecimal format for colors and Firefox development tools give rgb format.
Second suggestion would be resources tab like Chrome dev tools have. It is sometimes useful to have. Thanks in advance and keep up with good work on both Firebug and Firefox development tools. Web needs all the good tools it can get.
Thanks for the comments. As Skoua noted the color issue has been fixed in nightly. Event handlers attached to a given element should happen soon all the plumbling is there, it just needs a UI. Firebug introduced a new command lately called getEventListeners , which does the trick.
It currently allows you to see the event listeners within the DOM, but its UI will be improved with the next major release. Instead of hovering, I have to click on each tag to get similar effect.
What you guys need to add is: — autocompletion of css properties — edit as HTML, as chrome does — images URL html and css should be clickable and automatically opened in a new tab, as chrome does.
Please file a bug with the dev tools component in bugzilla. This is good news and would be a big increase in usability for sure.
Thank you for all the hard work ;. So this should be finally fixed with Firebug 1. What — I wonder — is the future for extension writers like us? The future of your extension is totally up to you, of course. I have some basic thoughts on the sorts of features we would need published here:. I would be curious to hear feedback from you on what you think is missing that you would need to create extensions like Backbone Eye with the Firefox Developer Tools.
The ability to re-use the same UI metaphors provided by Firebug — within our own extension seamlessly — was a big win to us while we were developing Backbone Eye. I am going through the links you shared, but I would definitely like extensions to the Firefox dev tools to look and share the same presentation idioms as the platform tools…. I am really in need of this feature. Please change it back to the old layout fast. When normally using the Chrome developer tools, the single most important thing that one notices about the Firefox developer tools is that they are hilariously complicated.
Thanks for your feedback. It would be appreciated, however, if you could give any specific examples of what you find complicated. Not currently, but allowing console access from the debugger and inspector are things we are definitely considering for our roadmap, and getting feedback from users definitely helps us prioritize! Question: are you mainly interested in seeing error messages in the debugger, or entering JS code, or both?

You were there for every step! What will happen to Firebug Lite? There are environments like embedded browsers, where no other dev tools are available.
Firebug changed my life. I was so hesitant the first time I met Joe and proposed integrating YSlow with Firebug — and he agreed! We all wanted the awesomeness of Firebug to carry on, and we made it happen. Firebug has been an integral part of growing Frontend Engineering to the preeminent role it now plays on the Web. Ugh, the transition to FF Dev tools has been painful, to say the least, and right in the middle of a project.
To the future! Firebug was my guiding light through years of growth as a developer. Always my preference tool. But not Firefox Developer v57 is my new guide. So far, so-so-so Good! A true pioneer. Thanks for all the help over the years, and the rich legacy you leave on all browsers. RIP firebug. I got a job at a marketing agency doing super remedial QA testing on newly built websites in Thanks, lil buddy.
Firebug helped me realize my goal of doing my design work in the browser, so I could create and tweak using code instead of pixels. I am sad Firefox is going this way. It changed my life as a developer and solidified my decision to go into web development. I am very sorry to see it going.
I have known about this for a while, and tried to warm up to the dev tools, but they are still not a worthy replacement, IMHO, for Firebug. A great example is working with bootstrap layouts : in Firebug, if I go into the HTML tab and change the column values, I instantly see the changes in the layout of the page — not so with the dev tools, at least not last time I looked.
I guess I will have to accept the change, but I am actually using an old version of FF now 49 and disabling updates so I can still use Firebug. Hopefully, they will eventually get all of the features baked in that made Firebug so beloved. Love you. Swiss-knife of the development team. This was a life changing tool. It was simply unbelievable back then.
What we take for granted today evolved from Firebug. This used to be our saviour! Editing CSS on the spot with the creative director sitting next to me.. Echoing most of the sentiments above: Thank you to anybody who worked on developing Firebug — you made our lives easier as developers. Your efforts are very much appreciated. Let me also chime in. Firebug was a real lifesaver, and probably the number one reason I got Firefox installed around the workplace.
Great job then, and also now with the Firefox DevTools. Keep it up! Really, miss Firebug, it is made by developers for developers, so smartly made!! Firebug not only influenced every single browser out there, it also helped me get into web development. Massive congrats to the devs, we should do a little fundraising for them or something. It says 70 comments at the top but I can only see 14 on the page with no link to older comments.
Is this a bug? I feel sad to see Firebug go!! I have been working with Firefox since and I am still not disappointed. Awww, Its sad news. Life saver for me on many cases. Thanks very much. I agree with Tanveer on Fundrising. Really sad to see it go. So far there are a lot of little things that firebug did much better than the native debug tool. I actually reverted back to an older version of Firefox temporarily just so I could use it again.
Firebug is always be my first love. As a font end developer I always thankful to it. A friend, a life saver and life changing for so many as mine. Thank you for developers, who shown the future of all web browsers. Create project and thanks a lot for your effort! Firebug is a division of new web developing era. I will always remember it for sure.

With that the Firefox DevTools are opened instead of Firebug when you click the Firebug button and a notification is shown giving a short explanation:. You can get Firebug back by deactivating the multi-process feature , though this is only a short-term solution, as multi-process will be mandatory at some point.
